Notorious
Controversy erupted over the weekend around the Biggie Smalls biopic Notorious. Though the film did well at the box office, coming in fourth in North America, a shooting reportedly took place at a movie showing in North Carolina on Friday. Actor Jamal Woolard, who portrays B.I.G. in the film, was on hand when shots were fired in the lobby of the theatre. He wasn’t hurt but one moviegoer was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.

A New Label
Singer Amy Winehouse is launching a record label called Lioness. Who do you think would trust Amy with their career?. NME is reporting that the label’s first signing is 13-year-old Dionne Bromfield who is shown here accompanied by her godma Amy. The two have been collaborating in the studio and Amy’s sunk £1-million into the release and enlisted Lady Gaga to work on the album that’s due out in March.

The Scottish rockers will play ahead of The Cure's headlining 90-minute set at the O2 Arena on February 26 Crystal Castles and White Lies will also perform on the night. Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos told NME.com: "We've always fancied playing the Millennium Dome and it's great to share the stage with The Cure - one of the greatest British bands of the last 30 years." Grammy Museum
As it prepares for the 50th edition of the Grammy Awards (Feb. 8), the organization behind the show is unveiling a new, four-storey, $34-million museum dedicated to the prestigious institution. Located in downtown Los Angeles, Calif., the Grammy Museum includes historic artifacts and displays of past trophy winners, with an emphasis on music education and appreciation. The 30,000-square-foot space includes an 18-foot touch-screen information table, booths that allow visitors an interactive look at the music-making process and a 200-seat theatre. The Grammy Museum opens with an exhibit titled Songs of Conscience, Sounds of Freedom, which looks at the connection between music and politics.

Arctic Monkeys

The Band took to the stage in New Zealand last night for their first gig in over a year. Performing some old favourites to a packed crowd in Wellington, they also treated their fans to four new songs. They previewed the new tracks - 'Dangerous Animals', 'Pretty Visitors' and 'Crying Lightning' to the sold-out audience at the city's Town Hall. Some of new material saw the band using a little toy piano and a slide guitar.

New Gorillaz?
Gorillaz founders Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett are set to start recording sessions on their third album in March, despite a staged break up live on radio last night. The pair confirmed work on the follow-up to 2005's 'Demon Days' would begin in earnest with a collaboration in Syria.

Feist Raises over $200,000
Feist has raised more than $200,000 at her online store for charity. 'We've tallied the numbers, connected the dots, and are delighted to report that over $200,000 has been donated to various excellent organizations,' she proudly states in a blog at her Myspace site. All of the money went to worthwhile causes. 'These organizations include MSF Canada, CARE Canada, War Child Canada and The Salvation Army 'Feist says. 'All of these agencies will continue to do immeasurably positive things, like: build schools, dig wells, educate communities and—in general—do piles of good well beyond the reach of rock and roll.

Bedouin Soundclash lose a Member
One of the founding members of Bedouin Soundclash is leaving the trio from Kingston, Ont. Drummer Pat is out, while Frontman Jay Malinowski and bassist Eon Sinclair will continue with the musical group, according to a release from the band's management. "All three are grateful for each other's friendship and contribution to the band, and will continue to support each other moving forward," the statement said. The band released its third album, Street Gospels, in 2007. Its debut, Root Fire, came out in 2001, and it won the Juno Award, honouring the best in Canadian music, for best new group. The remaining band members will proceed without Pat for their Feb. 7 date at the Hillside Inside Festival in Guelph, Ont., and for their five-date festival tour of Australia at the end of the month.

A condensed two-disc DVD will also be made available. Pre-sales for the box began on Friday, Dec 12.
