News February 26th 2009
The Killers will headline the V Festival in August.
The rockers - who won Best International Band at the NME Awards last night (25.02.09) - confirmed they will headline the annual music event, saying their show will be "bigger and better" than ever. Bassist Mark Stoermer said: "We are indeed headlining the V Festival and we're lucky to be doing it on our third album - things keep getting better for us. "We will have the biggest lighting show we've ever had - it costs twice as much as our last tour. When you're playing big places you've got to give something to everyone, including the fans at the back. "We've become more refined as a live act."
Stolen Instruments
A $40,000 viola stolen from the locker of a McGill University music student earlier this month is back in the hands of its owner. The viola, which police say had been sold to a pawn shop for $100, was one of seven instruments stolen from the school over the past two months. The viola had been missing since early February, said its owner Alicia Bisha, 18. Bisha, who is in her first year of violin performance studies, had lent the viola to a student who plays in her quartet. When the group got together to practice on Feb. 7, the student told Bisha that the instrument had disappeared from her locker.
Duffy Wins Big at Brit Awards
Soul singer Duffy scooped top prizes for best album, best British female solo artist and best breakthrough act at the Brit Awards - Britain's version of the Grammys. Wednesday's triple-play caps a great year for the 24-year-old Welsh songstress, whose "Rockferry" album registered 4.5 million in international sales in 2008. Coldplay - who along with the sultry-voiced blonde received four nominations - were given the cold shoulder. Duffy beat a crowded field including singer-rapper Estelle, Grammy-award winning soul singer Adele, and grime-pop Sri Lankan refugee M.I.A. to take the best female solo award.By the time she took home her third prize of the evening, she was beginning to choke up.

Anyone who pre-orders will immediately get an MP3 of the first single “Help I’m Alive”. Until then, here is a free download of an acoustic version of “Help I’m Alive”. The band also working on worldwide touring plans, dates will be announced soon
Ticketmaster
A proposed merger announced Tuesday between top concert promoter Live Nation and the world's dominant ticket seller, Ticketmaster has been creating some strong controversy because of lack of competition in the market. The merger worth about $316 million in stock would create a conglomeration that would generate an estimated revenue of $6 billion a year.
The deal has raised concerns amongst the justice department in the U.S. who says it will conduct an investigation of the proposed deal, which could take months. A spokeswoman for the department told the Associated Press that they are "committed to vigorous enforcement of the merger antitrust laws and will conduct a thorough investigation of the proposed Ticketmaster/Live Nation transaction."
There is no telling what this new merger will mean especially after recent allegations of Ticketmaster's proposed foul play. The company allegedly boosted prices on Bruce Springsteen tickets recently when consumers were pointed to affiliate, TicketsNow selling the same tickets for a much higher price.

Adele
This weekend Adele took home some grammys which is very exciting in my opinion. She won best new artist and best pop vocal album.
Joaquin Phoenix,
You may remember Joaquin Phoenix from movies like Walk the Line, Ladder 49 and The Village but now hes a rapper...for real. Joaquin revealed he’s a long time fan of hip-hop – including artists like Public Enemy and Ice Cube to the Associated Press – and says hes been recording tracks for a rap album at his home studio. You can watch the two-time Academy Awards nominee in his last movie role on Feb. 13 in the romantic drama Two Lovers.
