Important for Musicians Going to The UK
B.C.-born musician Alison Crowe is back in Europe after getting kicked out of the United Kingdom last week. Crowe was scheduled to perform with her band in Edinburgh, but fell afoul of new U.K. laws that require musicians to get special permits to play there. When their plane landed in Gatwick airport, security officers locked them in a holding cell, Crowe told CBC News."Then they fingerprinted and photographed us and three hours later, roughly, trucked us over in a paddywagon to another building. And that's where we were kept for the remainder of the day, where we were interrogated and searched," she said. Crowe said her passport was stamped "barred from entry" by U.K. officials. The U.K. has introduced a Certificate of Sponsorship, required by anyone who works in the creative sector, from musicians to actors to technicians

Muse
Muse announced via Twitter that their fifth album will be titled 'The Resistance’. The album is said to includes the band’s most orchestral work to date which Matt Bellamy has said is more suited to 'Classic FM'. The Matthew leadsinger of Muse says "There's a new song in three parts, which I have been working on sporadically for many years. As a large percentage of the composition is orchestral... I've been arranging the orchestral elements myself, which is taking a long time."
Incubus News
Incubus' "Monuments and Melodies" started out as "a contractual obligation," according to guitarist Michael Einziger, who tells Billboard.com that he and his bandmates "weren't really excited at first" about putting together a best-of collection. But they eventually changed their tune."It was almost like we were trying to come up with an excuse to go on tour for the summer," Einziger explains, "and we started really thinking about the idea of putting out a greatest hits album and having that as the excuse to accompany the tour we were planning. And then as we started planning it, it became really obvious that greatest hits records are really important to the legacy of any band. I was introduced to most of the groups I grew up listening to -- artists like Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley and the Doors -- through their greatest hits records

Modernboys Moderngirls
Have a final version of "I Might As Well Break It" streaming online at their website and will be released in August BUT this is only part one the band says although they've been simultaneously writing music for part two it won't be released until next year.

ARCTIC MONKEYS
have revealed that some of their new album will be "full on" with a Black Sabbath influence. Frontman Alex Turner said they started work on the album last summer and used their trip to the Latitude Festival as inspiration. Speaking to NME.com, he said: "We went to Latitude, ripped it up, wrote on our faces and eventually wrote some songs. "We spent the first day there on the most complicated riff you've ever heard. It goes round in seven-and-a-half-time. We used it in the end, it's on an intro. It was like [Black] Sabbath."Turner also confirmed that the band are hoping to release the album before their headline performances at the Reading And Leeds Festivals in August.
LADY GAGA
During a recent visit to Russia singer Lady GaGa was mistaken as a hooker by police. Lady GaGa says The Moscow police thought she was a prostitute as she stood in the city's Red Square taking pictures. She said she stopped her driver in the middle of the world-famous landmark, but was quickly approached by officers who made gestures to her suggesting she was perhaps there for other business. This is rather odd news but something I found rather funny.
ORDER OF CANADA
Randy Bachman (you may know him from such musical efforts as The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Over drive) was awarded the Order of Canada, on Friday in a ceremony at Rideau hall Bachman says Starting out just as a kid in Winnipeg, wanting to write and play music, you never think ahead of anything except the next phone call, which hopefully has your next gig,"

Jack White
Country music stars Emmylou Harris and Kix Brooks, along with guitarist Jack White, will soon be giving advice to Nashville's mayor. The three have joined the 46-member Music Business Council, which the mayor says will help protect Nashville's brand name as "Music City.""There are a lot of good people in this community, with lots of good ideas," Harris said in the Sunday edition of The Tennessean. "I'm just saying to the mayor, 'Put me in, coach.'" The panel is expected to advise on initiatives including the construction of a downtown amphitheater, the expansion of the CMA Music Festival, the creation of a new, non-country festival and the enhancement of music education.
Anothony Kiedis Does good deeds
Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis was honoured over the weekend for helping out other artists who are addicts. Kiedis himself struggled with drug addition for years, and dedicates time and money to the MusiCares MAP Fund which provides treatment for musicians. The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Iggy Pop performed at the event Friday.
V-Fest
Nova Scotia is set to have its first V Fest starting on July 4 so far Metric, The Tragically Hip and Hey Rosetta among many other awesome bands have been added to the line up although not to much mention of the Toronto line up, or even the starting date at virginfestival.ca I think we should be getting great bands too.

Interpol
Interpol's lead singer, and guitarist Paul Banks is set to release a solo album under the name Julian Plenti, according to the Matador Records blog. his new project called "Skyscraper," will be released on August 4th. Julian Plenti isn't a new alter ego, Banks has written and performed under the name for several years, according to a source close to the situation. While the album was recorded recently, some of the songs were written more than ten years ago. The album is described as having a "cocky, sexy" feel, with tracks that sound similar to Interpol, as well as some straight-ahead guitar rock songs.
Virgin Fest
Virgin festivals are rolling out across Canada this summer with concerts planned in Quebec, Nova Scotia, Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. The two-day summer music festivals, the idea of Virgin Group chairman Richard Branson, made their debut in Canada with a Toronto concert in 2006. Last year, a festival planned for Vancouver was cancelled because organizers couldn't secure top acts. Concerts went ahead in Toronto and Calgary. It's the first time Virgin festivals have been planned for Nova Scotia and Quebec.
