As I am sure many of you know, the great pop legend Michael Jackson has passed away. Since this story has been scooped up by almost ALL of the media outlets, I am going to refrain from writing much about it. But I would like to acknowledge the fact that Michael Jackson broke down barriers throughout his career and inspired so many people. His music WILL live on forever and he will always remain an icon in the history of music. Rest in Peace Michael.

News June 17 2009
The White Stripes
According to the Canadian Press, Jack and Meg White are to document their 2007 summer adventure when they toured some of Canada’s most unlikely spots. "When we started, we just didn't know what we were doing, so we just [said]: 'Film everything, see what happens,'" Jack said while visiting Toronto over the weekend with his new band the Dead Weather. "I don't think we would wanna film ourselves like this. I'm pretty anti-reality television and all that ridiculous peeking behind the curtain sort of aspect of entertainment these days," he added. "But in this case, I don't think it really has that ridiculousness to it. It does have an insight into some of the things that got created and how we went about making a tour like this. The White Stripes play 18 dates across Canada most notable were stops in Winnipeg where they played on a bus, rocked out to some kiddies at a Toronto summer camp, partied on a boat in Charlottetown and ate some caribou in Iqaluit. No final date of release yet but should be a great dvd.
Polaris Music Prize
The long list of 2009 nominess has been announced the list includes the 40 top Canadian albums released between June 1, 2008 and May 31, 2009, selected by a jury of music journalists across the country. The List includes Hey Rosetta! Handsome Furs, K-Os, Land of Talk, Malajube, and Metric. For the full list Click Here
A Bit of a Slip Up
Organizers of Calgary's Sled Island festival are reprinting their promotional posters after allowing an obscenity to slip through the first time."I looked at the poster and thought, 'Oh gee,' " festival director Zakary Pashak said, referring to the words Holy Fuck. Holy Fuck is one of the 250-plus bands scheduled to perform at Sled Island next month. The band made headlines last summer when the Harper government used its name to justify cuts to arts funding. Bright, pink posters including the name of the band have been plastered all over the inner city. Ali Clark, manager at Kane's Harley Diner in Inglewood, said no one asked for permission to put up a poster in her restaurant. "One of the kids pointed out to me there are swear words on a poster," she said. "That's appalling to find in a family resturant". Needless to say the bands name continues to cause contraversy

News Update June 11 2009
V-Fest
So far we've gotten the update for dates in Nova Scotia, Montreal, and BC but no details for Torontos show yet, well nothing except for Ontario being on the list of places the festival is stopping this summer. On a more positive note the other cities seem to have something for everybody. Nova Scotia has The Tragically Hip, Metric, Hey Rosetta, and Dinosaur Jr. BC has Ben Harper, Our Lady Peace, K-OS and Mute Math. Montreal has Black Eyed Peas, Stereos, and Karl Wolf. I think that with acts like these on deck Toronto will be awesome.
Futurama
Fry, Bender and their 31st century friends will awaken next year, with Comedy Central and 20th Century Fox to bring the popular animated TV comedy Futurama back to life. Executives cited fan demand as the reason for the return of the satirical sci-fi cartoon, which has had solid ratings in re-runs and enjoyed brisk DVD sales. The revival is being likened to Fox's decision to return cancelled animated comedy Family Guy to its schedule. "When we brought back Family Guy several years ago, everyone said that it was a once-in-a lifetime thing — that cancelled series stay cancelled and cannot be revived," Fox chair Gary Newman said, according to trade paper Hollywood Reporter."But Futurama was another series that fans simply demanded we bring back."
Home Grown Talent
A young filmmaker from Quebec who was the toast of the Cannes Directors' Fortnight side event in France has apparently grabbed the attention of Brad Pitt.Xavier Dolan, who just turned 20, nabbed three trophies at the Directors' Fortnight gala on May 22 for his first film, J'ai tué ma mère (I Killed My Mother).Dolan captured the Art Cinema prize, the Regards Jeunes award and the SACD prize for best French-language film. Dolan says he recently got a call from Pitt's production company but has been busy preparing for the Montreal premiere of his film on June 5. It opens in seven theatres across Quebec that day and will expand to another seven next week."With everything, with all of this, I don't have time, so I will call them back next week," said the Montreal-based writer, director and actor.

Michael Moore
Film maker Michael Moore has written a sequel to the 1989 documentary Roger & Me, about General Motors CEO Roger Smith following the car czar’s decision to close several auto plants in Moore’s home town of Flint, Michigan, costing 30,000 people their jobs and economically devastating the city. This documentaries sequel seems to be coming at a pretty good time considering all the craziness in the auto industry.
Favorite Canadian Song
Neil Young's "Helpless" has been named the Great Canadian Tune after an online poll conducted by Toronto arts festival Luminato. "Helpless" topped nine other Canadian guitar-driven tracks, with 3,701 votes from a total of 19,217 Now, Luminato organizers are inviting the public to perform the song in unison at the city's Yonge-Dundas Square. The goal is to break the Guinness World Record for the world's largest guitar ensemble, currently held by a town in Germany that saw 1,802 guitarists assemble to perform Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" in 2007. The effort will take place on June 6 at 4 p.m. ET, with registration beginning two hours earlier.
New Music
Adele has revealed that she is halfway through writing material for her second album. The singer said she was "almost halfway there" and had five songs for the as-yet-untitled follow-up to her 2008 debut, 19, expected to be released next year. And she said the inspiration for the new album was just the same as the last – men.Speaking at the Glamour magazine awards in London she said: "Boys, I've still got the same problems. They get worse because I'm away all the time. It gets a bit harder."The littlest things I can write about, it doesn't have to be some drama. The littlest things about not putting a cup in the dishwasher. I can write a song about that as well."The 21-year-old Grammy award winner also admitted she is going to avoid playing at any of this summer's festivals.
