New Moon Music
When Twilight came out the song Decode by Paramore basically blew up. But don't expect to hear Paramore on the New Moon soundtrack as once rumoured, instead you'll hear music from Thom Yorke (Radiohead). New Moons director Chris Weitz announced last week that the soundtrack will feature Thom Yorke along with other musicians and bands that he (and the cast and crew) love. Although Weitz was yet to hear the track he says that he will almost defiantly put it on the soundtrack.

Cirque Du Soleil In the Sky?
The first Canadian civilian to buy a ticket to space said Thursday he's eager to begin practical training for his September trip to the International Space Station.
Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté is scheduled to blast off on Sept. 30 aboard a Soyuz spacecraft, becoming Canada's first space tourist and just the seventh civilian to fly alongside astronauts and cosmonauts on the Russian spaceships.
At a news conference, Laliberté said his training has been theoretical thus far, but practical training is set to begin soon. "It has been full weeks because I'm in an intensive training program, but until now it's been a fantastic experience," Laliberté said. "A lot of work, a lot of studying, but a lot of fun, too."
Laliberté paid nearly $35 million to Russia's space agency for the chance to fly on the spacecraft. He'll spend 12 days aboard the space station and meet with Canadian astronaut Robert Thirsk, who is currently two months into a six-month stay aboard the orbiting facility. Laliberte hopes that his trip will raise awareness about the need for clean water around the world, and his One Drop Foundation.

Depeche Mode
Have agreed for their likeness to be used in a zombie computer game.
The band said the Valve company could also feature their branding and music in its upcoming zombie survival shooter Left 4 Dead 2. Recent press shots for the game have featured Rochelle, one of the main survivors, wearing a pink T-shirt with the band's image and logo on it. The game's lead writer Chet Faliszek revealed that Depeche Mode fully authorised it and they were among the few to reply to Valve's requests to various artists and record labels asking them to feature in the game. Left 4 Dead 2 will be released for Xbox 360 and PC on November 17.

Mercury Prize.
Kasabian have admitted that they can't decide whether being a Mercury Prize favourite is a good thing.
Guitarist Sergio Pizzorno said he hadn't even thought they'd be nominated, let alone be given odds of 5/1 to pick up the prize. d then someone rang us up and goes, 'you're nominated', and it's like 'yeah?! Nice one!' Pizzorno also praised fellow nominees The Horrors, as well as other "NME-type" bands. He said: "That Horrors album's really good isn’t it? I like the single they released, it's great. I'm glad they're in it [the nominations list]. The NME-type bands are sort of saving it a bit, do you know what I mean?!"

White Stripes Doc to premiere at TIFF
The documentary The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights follows the band to cities like Whitehorse, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Charlottetown, which are unconventional stops for a prominent band. Jack White said he was living out a childhood fantasy by touring all of Canada. In addition to 18 official concerts, the tour featured several impromptu mini-shows, including jamming on a Winnipeg bus and rocking out from the back of boat in Charlottetown's harbour. TIFF documentary programmer Thom Powers said many of this year's documentaries reveal unusual new trends in the post-crash economy, including Google Baby, a documentary on surrogate mothers who carry babies for wealthy mothers in India and How to Fold A Flag, about Iraq veterans attempting to rebuild their lives after returning home.

Bruce Lee
Bruce Lee's older sister and younger brother have authorized a Chinese company to make a series of biographical films about the late kung fu icon, saying they want to produce a historically accurate account of their brother's life. Phoebe Lee and Robert Lee appeared at a signing ceremony with J.A. Media in Beijing on Monday, 36 years to the day after Bruce Lee died in Hong Kong at age 32 from swelling of the brain. Lee became a source of Chinese pride by portraying characters who defended the Chinese and the working class from oppressors in films like Return of the Dragon. It wasn't immediately clear who will play Lee in the film series. Producer Manfred Wong said the company plans at least three instalments, with the first to tackle Lee's teenage years, adding he wanted to focus more on the late actor's personality.

Bruno!

"Bruno" is getting a makeover in Great Britain so younger teens can see the movie.
Universal Pictures UK is releasing an edited version of Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy that will tone down the racy moments so it can earn a 15 certification from the British Board of Film Classification. That would allow anyone 15 and older to see it. The version now playing has an adults-only 18 certification that prohibits those younger than 18 from seeing the movie. The edited version runs one minute, 50 seconds shorter. It opens in British theatres on July 24. Universal says it decided to offer an edited cut after theatres turned away large numbers of teens younger than 18 who wanted to see "Bruno."

Broken Social Scene

Broken Social Scene is inviting its fans to help create an experimental concert film of the Canadian indie band, with acclaimed filmmakers Bruce McDonald and Don McKellar also signed on for the project. Though titled This Movie is Broken, the project is not connected to the recently released book about the local band, This Book is Broken. Professional camera crews captured footage of the band this past weekend at a free show the group gave on Toronto's waterfront, but McDonald is also inviting fans to upload amateur footage to the movie's website hismovieisbroken.com. According to producers, fans should "be interesting and be artistic" in uploading footage — be it from a video camera, Super 8 or cellphone — depicting a hot summer day in Toronto in July. "Experiment. Have fun. Our hope is that by integrating your footage with ours, we'll be able to create a visual mosaic that captures the city and the summer," producers said. Any footage used in the film's final cut will be given an on-screen credit and an invitation to a private screening. According to Stephen Lan, the film's publicist, the film follows a boy attending a Broken Social Scene concert with his crush, but things don't turn out as planned.

You Broke My Guitar
Halifax band Sons of Maxwell have taken their battle with United Airlines over a broken guitar to YouTube, and it seems the U.S. airline might just be listening. Dave Carroll, a songwriter for the folk group, pledged to write three songs about United Airlines breaking his guitar after months of runaround over the incident. We were touring last year, over a year ago and we had to fly United Airlines" he told CBC News. "Somebody cried out from behind me that 'they're throwing guitars outside.'"Carroll said his bass player saw United employees throwing the bass guitar, recognizing it through the plane window. "I tried to alert three employees who showed no interest at all and it began a nine-month saga of me trying to get compensation for a guitar that ended up being broken, badly broken," he said. The $3,500 Taylor acoustic guitar had been custom-made and was packed in a padded double case, but United refused to take responsibility. Carroll sent emails, wrote letters and talked to people at the airline over nine months until a Chicago employee told him to stop sending emails because he wasn't going to get compensation. "I said 'What would Michael Moore do if he was a singer-songwriter?' and so I decided to write three songs," said Carroll, one of the founding member of Sons of Maxwell. United Song #1 is a hurting song, with a catchy refrain that goes, in part, "United breaks guitars" and "You broke it you should fix it," went on YouTube July 6. It caught on pretty quickly, with more than 150,000 hits in its first day.

Michael Jackson

Now I know Michael Jackson is a huge inspiration for a lot of artist and a very popular musician BUT I really didn't want to report on his death because the news of his death and mysterious circumstances are all over everything. I did however find a piece of news that is pretty cool, Michael Jackson is once again the King of the Pop charts. Based on preliminary sales numbers from Nielsen SoundScan, the entire top nine positions on Billboard's Top Pop Catalog Albums chart have Jackson-related titles. Nielsen SoundScan's sales tracking week, ended at the close of business on Sunday (June 28). Jackson himself has a record eight out of the top 10, while a Jackson 5 compilation also finds its way into the upper tier. The King of Pop's "Number Ones" will fittingly lead the pack at No. 1 with 108,000 (an increase of 2,340%) while "The Essential Michael Jackson" and "Thriller" are in the Nos. 2 and 3 slots with 102,000 and 101,000, respectively. Last week "Number Ones" was the only Jackson title on the chart, at No. 20 with 4,000 copies; both "Essential" and "Thriller" re-enter the tally this week.

The Dears

The Dears have always seemed to be one of those bands that always has a new line up and Murray Lightburn recently revealed to Chart Attack that he isn’t sure how long the current line up will last, saying that being in the dears is like having any job where you work with other people sometimes it great and sometimes its not. But even with these problems Murray says hes already completed writing half a new album and will be a producing a new band over the summer.
