District 9
Nigerian officials say they've asked cinemas to stop screening the sci-fi movie District 9, filmed in South Africa, because of its portrayal of Nigerians.Information Minister Dora Akunyili said Saturday that the movie — a thinly veiled apartheid tale involving aliens — portrays Nigerians as cannibals and gangsters."We have written to the producer and distributor of the film, Sony Entertainment, expressing our displeasure and demanded an apology," Akunyili said. "We have asked that the areas where Nigeria and [former Nigerian president Olusegun] Obasanjo are mentioned should be edited from the film."Akunyili says she has asked the country's film and censor board to confiscate copies of District 9.

Keane

Keane drummer Richard Hughes is to accompany Amnesty International on a visit to a prisoner on death row in Georgia, USA to help highlight what is widely believed to be a miscarriage of justice. Hughes, 34, is visiting Troy Davis, 40, on death row at the Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson,in the US state of Georgia on Saturday 26 September. Mr Davis, who has always protested his innocence, has been on death row since 1991. Last year Mr Davis came within two hours of execution, but last month the US Supreme Court ruled that he should be allowed a new hearing to establish his innocence. Troy Davis was convicted in 1991 of killing a police officer called Mark Allen MacPhail in Savannah, Georgia in 1989. However, the authorities failed to produce a murder weapon or any physical evidence linking Davis to the crime, and seven of nine witnesses against him later recanted or changed their initial testimonies in sworn affidavits. Amnesty International has a petition for Troy Davis at: www.amnesty.org.uk/deathpenalty

We're Moving!

Today is our last show in the old house at 91 St. George St. Next week we will be broadcasting from Hart House. Our show will be done live every Thursday from the Map Room Studio, which is located almost directly across from the Porter's Desk on the main floor. One of the exciting things about this new studio is the set up. There are glass doors and windows, and a huge lounge outside, so anyone can come down and check us out broadcasting live!

We say goodbye to our old house, we will always remember all of the good times in this building. And we welcome the new space in Hart House and look forward to all of the exciting experiences to come.

xoxo

A Career Change
Lily Allen has revealed that she is taking a break from music to try her hand at acting. The singer said after four years on the road, her voice has been through enough and she is ready to try "something new". She announced her news as she played Bestival on Saturday, telling the crowd: "I'm not going to record and tour again for quite a while. I finish up my gig dates in March and I'll be ready to do something else. "I've been on the road for four years and I've given my voice a real run for its money. "I'm struggling, so I'm going to try something new. "Allen is set to tread the boards and make her stage debut in the West End in a play by top writer and director Neil LaBute called Reasons To Be Pretty, the sequel to hit shows The Shape Of Things and Fat Pig. She said: "The play is about themes close to my heart, things I touch on in my track The Fear, about the really damaging cult of beauty among young girls.

A New Album from The Bravery

The Bravery's third album -- "Slow Poison," due out Nov. 10 -- will be "darker and angrier" than its predecessors, according to frontman Sam Endicott. But it's not a wholesale reinvention of the band, either. "I'd say it's more like the first record (in 2005) in that there's a lot of electronics on it, but it still sounds very human," Endicott tells Billboard.com. "It's also like the first record in that it's a party album. It's uptempo, fun music, although it does have a range of things. There are slower, dreamy songs, and our bass player (Mike Hindert) wrote a song ('She Is So Bendable') that sounds like a '50s ballad or something."The Bravery started working on its follow-up to 2007's sophomore effort "The Sun and the Moon" in October of 2008, working up songs in an abandoned church in rural upstate New York. The group then returned to Manhattan to work with co-producer John Hill (M.I.A., Santigold). "He taught us a lot of ways to manipulate synthesizers and guitars in a way that we had never done before, so the album sounds spacier," Endicott explains.
